The victims discovered in 2000 were identified as Sarah Lynn McWaters also daughter of Marlyse, and a yet to be identified child approximately 2 to 4 years of age. The mother of this unidentified child is also a mystery and possible another victim of Rasmussen.
UPDATE: January 25 2021
Mississippi Police are asking for help identifying the 4th child found in the metal barrel in 2000. New DNA evidence shows that the child's unidentified mother has relatives in Pearl River County, Mississippi. The child and her mother could be the descendants of Thomas 'Deadhorse' Mitchell, who was born in 1836 or William Livings who was born in 1826. She’d be the fifth or 6th great-grandchild of one of these men. Pearl River County is in southern Mississippi and borders Louisiana and has a population of 55,500. Authorities are hoping someone in Pearl River County will remember a woman and her young daughter disappearing in the late 70's.
How Does Rasmussen and Marlyse Honeychurch Connect ?
It's not known exactly how Rasmussen met Marlyse Honeychurch and her children. In 1978 just after a Thanksgiving Day argument with her mother, the four of them left California and traveled to Manchester New Hampshire. Rasmussen began using the name "Bob Evans". It appeared Marlyse was with Rasmussen for a period of time living at 925 Haywood Street.
Marlyse was born in Connecticut in 1954, Marlyse had previously married Marie's father in June 1971, moved to Fall River Massachusetts in 1973 and was divorced by 1974. She married Sarah's father in September 1974, Sarah was born in 1977, and the two were separated by the time she was known to be dating Rasmussen. The children both went through periods where they were in the custody of their fathers, but Marlyse would later regain guardianship. By October 1978, Sarah's father was seeing another woman and Sarah was presumably in the care of her mother.
In November 2019, Honeychurch and her older daughter Marie Vaughn, were laid to rest together with a new headstone bearing their names in Allenstown, New Hampshire. Honeychurch’s youngest daughter, Sarah, was laid to rest in Connecticut, near her father’s family.
More Possible Rasmussen Victims
Laureen Ann Rahn 1980 Manchester, New Hampshire
Laureen Ann Rahn (1966-1980) disappeared from her Manchester, New Hampshire home. On the night of her disappearance, Rahn was accompanied by a male and female friend at the apartment she shared with her mother.
At some point during the evening, Rahn's male friend left the apartment after hearing voices in the hallway, assuming Rahn's mother was returning home from an evening out. Her female friend remained at the apartment. Upon the mother's arrival home after midnight, she found that all of the lightbulbs in the apartment building's hallways had been unscrewed, leaving the halls completely dark. In the apartment, she saw a figure sleeping in her daughter's bed and assumed it to be her; however, she then discovered it was in fact Rahn's female friend who had slept in the bed. Her friend claimed to have seen Rahn going to sleep on the couch.
The girl would later state that she was unable to recall any of that night due to her inebriation. Rahn left the apartment leaving her purse, clothing behind.
The unnamed male friend who was drinking alcohol with Rahn the night she disappeared committed suicide in 1985, though law enforcement never considered him a suspect in her disappearance. Decades later, police determined that Terry Rasmussen lived a mile and half from Laureen Rahn.
Denise Deneault 1980 Manchester, New Hampshire
In June 1980, six (6) weeks after Rahn's disappearance, Denise Daneault (25) who lived two blocks from the Rahn residence, went missing from a bar in Manchester, New Hampshire. Decades later it was determined Daneault had been living on the same street as Rasmussen. Police and FBI agents conducted a search in Manchester after receiving an anonymous tip regarding Daneault in November 2017, after Rasmussen was announced as the Bear Brook killer. A second search was conducted in May 2018. In 2020, New Hampshire Senior Assistant Attorney General Jeff Strelzin said there was no "evidentiary connection" between Daneault and Rasmussen but that the interest in his case brought renewed attention to Daneault's disappearance.
