Manuel C. Almeida Jr. 1918 Solved
On January 9 1918 Manuel C. Almeida Jr. (25), while working as a taxi driver, was shot, thrown over a stonewall and left for dead in a field. Autopsy results determined Almeida had been shot five (5) times, once in the head and four (4) in the shoulder.
During the investigation Philip Thorpe (26) became the prime suspect, since it became known that Almeida was having an affair with Thorpe's wife, and had assisted her in obtaining a divorce.
Thorpe was located in Huntington Long Island NY where he was residing and working as a chauffeur. He was taken into custody and interrogated about the murder.
The firearm used in the murder, a revolver, was purchased in Providence RI just two (2) days prior to the murder. After the murder, the firearm was pawned by a man using the name Frank Thomas. It was later determined Frank Thomas was a fake name. On Jan 12 1918 Philip Thorpe was extradited back to Fall River to face trial. He plead guilty to 2nd degree murder.
